The 2021 Villa Gyetvai Kékfrankos was awarded gold at the Grand Prix Vinex, one of the most important Czech wine competitions, which took place for the 32nd time this year.
The Grand Prix Vinex was first held in the Czech Republic in 1993. This international competition, which primarily evaluates Central European wines, is organised by the Národní Vinařské Centrum (National Wine Centre), Veletrhy Brno (BVV Exhibition Centre Brno) and Svaz Vinařů ČR (Czech Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers).
We are particularly keen to showcase our Kékfrankos wine to an international audience, partly because we are proud of it as a local variety, and partly because its elegant, restrained structure and delicate fruit aromas make it most suitable for representing the Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region.
The Kékfrankos that has brought our winery the most recognition for this grape variety to date is the 2021 vintage. At harvest time, we called it 'indigo wine' because of its colour, and it began to show its extraordinary potential as early as fermentation. Our winemaker, Gábor Demjén, has a different favourite each year, and in 2021, he kept coming back to the Kékfrankos. A key factor in its success may have been that this was the first vintage in which we were able to harvest grapes from our own Kékfrankos vineyard in Szil-dűlő.
