Last summer, we unveiled our winery’s first sparkling wine, the Belvedere Brut, and entered it into the Berliner Wine Trophy summer competition, where it won a gold medal. We haven’t announced this yet, but now that Balaton's summer is in full swing, it’s the perfect time to try it if you haven’t already.
The Berliner Wine Trophy is a wine competition held twice a year. Our 2023 vintage Belvedere Brut received the top award at the summer edition. The world’s largest wine competition, sponsored by the OIV (International Organization of Vine and Wine), took place last summer between July 26 and August 3.
We chose Furmint as the base for our first sparkling wine because we believed that, by using a variety with a long history in the North Balaton wine regions, capable of faithfully expressing the characteristics of the terroir, we would build on a solid foundation. Alongside the high quality that defines our entire portfolio, we aimed to ensure that the balance and refinement typical of traditional sparkling wines would be evident in the bottle and that the wine would age beautifully over a long period. Now that the second disgorgement of this cuvée has been on the market for over two years, having spent that time on fine lees during its second bottle ageing, we can see that our decision was the right one.
