Although we have made several types of Olaszrizling in recent years, 2023 was the very first vintage of our single-vineyard Olaszrizling 'Hajnóczy'. We are therefore particularly pleased that the wine was awarded the Csopak Codex Single Vineyard Wine label in its first year.
Csopak Codex is an independent protected designation of origin (PDO) and trademark protection system focusing on Csopak and its traditional varieties, Olaszrizling and Furmint. Since its establishment in 2010, its aim has been to take the quality of Csopak wines to the next level.
Wines bearing the Csopak Codex trademark can be produced in two categories: Hill Wines and Single Vineyard Wines. In order to comply with the regulations, the wines of both categories must contain a minimum of 85% Olaszrizling and a maximum of 15% Furmint, and the grapes must come from one of the 42 historic vineyards in the vicinity of Csopak, Paloznak, Lovas, Alsóörs and Felsőörs. However, unlike Hill Wines, Single Vineyard Wines are subject to additional viticultural and wine-making regulations.
In addition to the above criteria, the wines must also pass a blind tasting conducted by a professional jury to assess their quality and typicity. The Csopak Codex Judging took place at the beginning of the summer, and in addition to Villa Gyetvai's Hajnóczy Olaszrizling 2023, eight other wines were awarded the Single Vineyard Wine trademark: Fekete Zsolt – Hegyalja 2023, Guden – Slikker 2023, Hamvas – Nagykút 2023, Hamvas – Nagykút 2022, Jásdi – Lőczedomb 2023, Jásdi – Siralomvágó 2021, Koralevics – Nagykút 2023 és St. Donat – Slikker 2023. It’s a great privilege to belong to such a prestigious company.
