Besides receiving positive feedback from wine lovers and industry professionals, the first vintage of our winery’s top red wine, Syrah, has already won us several awards, as well as bringing recognition to Balatonfüred. After winning at the National Wine Competition and the Veszprém County Wine Competition, the wine was awarded another gold medal at the Winelovers Awards.
The Winelovers Awards wine competition was held in Hungary for the fourth time in 2025. At the event, an international jury evaluated wines in 12 categories. The organisers had this to say about the judges: “As in previous years, the cream of the wine world gathered once again: Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, and WSET-certified experts, as well as winemakers, merchants, and renowned sommeliers, came together to find the best wines in Central and Eastern Europe at the Winelovers international competition”.
The organisers' goal was to exceed 1,000 entries, and they achieved this, with a record 1,063 wines being submitted to the competition by wineries. Of these, 193 wines received gold medals, requiring the jury to award at least 90 points to the respective lot.
We are excited about Syrah because, as our top red wine, we didn’t just want to produce a full-bodied red. Given the grape variety's inherent qualities, sophistication, balance and aromatic richness were far more important. This is precisely why the timing of the harvest was crucial, resulting in an alcohol content of 13%, which allows the fruity and spicy aromas characteristic of Syrah to shine.
