After last year's competition in Balatonfüred, Grow du Monde returned to Serbia in 2025. The Czech Republic dominated the international wine competition specializing in Olaszrizling grapes, but Hungary was the second most successful country, and we contributed to this result with the 2024 Hajnóczy winning a gold medal.
This was the fourth time that the Olaszrizling-specific competition had been organised, with the three founding countries taking it in turns to host. The event was organised by Saša Špiranec (Croatia), Zoltán Győrffy (Hungary) and Igor Luković (Serbia), and this year it was Serbia's turn to host. They organised a week-long programme of events centred around the variety, including Olaszrizling festivals in Novi Sad and Belgrade.
This year, Grow du Monde received 255 entries from eight countries. Hungary submitted 79 wines, Croatia 67, Serbia 51, the Czech Republic 39, Slovenia 14, North Macedonia 2, Austria 2, and Slovakia 1. The entries were judged by 18 experts from 11 countries.
Villa Gyetvai's 2024 Hajnóczy single vineyard wine, the winery's flagship Olaszrizling, won a gold medal at the competition. This is the second vintage of this wine, which debuted last year as a standalone wine in the portfolio. After being harvested by hand, the grapes were fermented in steel tanks and then matured primarily in tanks, with a small proportion maturing in used barrels. The wine was bottled in May, so it was still very fresh at the early summer competition, but it has now reached its peak after a few months of bottle ageing.
