To us, Villa Gyetvai is more than just the home of our winery; it is also where our story began, with the renovation of the building and the associated vineyard. It is therefore a significant milestone for us that Villa Gyetvai will be entered into the Balatonfüred City Repository of Values on 4 December 2025.
The purpose of the local repository is to collect and document the intellectual heritage of the municipality. In 2012, thanks to the Hungaricum Act, the creation of local repositories began at the municipal level, and Balatonfüred also joined this initiative. What can be included in the repository? Intellectual, material, natural, and community values or products, creative activities, traditions, phenomena related to the landscape and wildlife, buildings, sculptures, natural environments, events, and attractions related to hospitality and tourism.
This is the basis of a multi-level system, as we can read on the website of the town of Balatonfüred: "The Hungarian Repository of Values is a bottom-up pyramid system that summarizes the values compiled on the basis of proposals on several levels. The county repository is compiled from the local values of the municipalities, and from these, the Hungarian repository, which covers all domestic regions, is compiled, from which the Hungaricums are then highlighted."
The Balatonfüred City Repository covers a range of categories, including architectural and cultural heritage, industrial and technical solutions, sports, tourism and hospitality, health and lifestyle, the natural environment, and agriculture and food production. Villa Gyetvai has been nominated in the cultural heritage category. We are honoured to be in such esteemed company as the legendary grape breeder Dr József Csizmazia, the Balatonfüred Anna Ball, the Mór Jókai Memorial House and the writer's novel The Golden Man.
'I believe that value is an important concept to which we must pay attention. In my work as an architect, for example, when renovating the villa it came naturally to think in terms of value and to preserve and showcase the original beauty of the building, created by its first owner, Budapest restaurateur Lajos Szabó, and Veszprém architect and master builder Károly Bán. However, learning about the concept of value creation through viticulture and winemaking was a completely new adventure for me. I am still amazed by this miracle and it is something connected to Balatonfüred," said Zsolt Gyetvai, summarising his thoughts on the award.
The entry into the Repository of Values will take place on December 4, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Villa Gyetvai.
