EVENTFrom the Youngest to the Most Mature: A Chinese Tea Tasting

From the Youngest to the Most Mature: A Chinese Tea Tasting

China has known and revered tea for more than five thousand years. One of the best-known Chinese green teas is Long Jing, which comes from the hillsides of the famous village of the same name. The first spring harvest is particularly valuable as the leaves contain high levels of minerals, antioxidants and vitamins at this time. It takes nearly two thousand buds, consisting of unopened buds, to produce one kilogram of tea. This is a rare opportunity to taste fresh Long Jing tea that has arrived directly from China's tea fields.

This unique experience is completed with another legendary Chinese tea: ten-year-old Pu-erh. Considered one of the world’s most valuable teas, Pu-erh is harvested from ancient tea trees that grow in the mountains along the border between Vietnam and Laos. The trees are revered as sacred, with offerings made to ensure a good harvest, and their history is shrouded in legend. Since 2023, the area has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the only cultural landscape in the world specifically associated with tea.

During the tasting, we will start with the youngest tea and finish with the oldest. Join us on a special journey led by Erzsébet Simon as we explore these two iconic pillars of Chinese tea culture.

Erzsébet Simon studied porcelain design, which sparked her interest in the tradition of tea drinking, the expectations surrounding cups and teapots, and tea masters. To delve deeper into the subject, she set out on a journey. First she went to China, to Jingdezhen, known as the cradle of porcelain, and then to Longjing, one of the most famous tea-growing regions. Next came India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Korea, and finally Japan.
