Villa Gyetvai Chardonnay wins gold at Semmelweis University Competition

The Semmelweis University Wine Competition was held for the 13th time this year, with twice as many wines entered as last year. 201 wines from 53 wineries were tasted by the jury and the winners were chosen in a blind tasting. The panel was made up of university staff and wine experts. The results were announced in five categories at an awards ceremony and wine tasting. The awards were presented by the Rector of the University at a ceremony in the Semmelweis Salon.

According to Dr Béla Merkely, Rector of the University, the chairman of the wine competition, there is an important message in the fact that a medical university with more than 250 years of tradition is holding a wine competition. The Semmelweis University Wine Award also brings the reputation of Hungarian wines to the world, as the institution has more than 200 foreign universities as partners.

The winners were presented by Dr. László Gellér, Deputy Head of the Department of Cardiology at the Városmajor Heart and Vascular Clinic, and the prizes were awarded by Dr. Béla Merkely.

In the international white varieties category our 2022 vintage Chardonnay was awarded 3rd place and a gold rating. As a wine region focused on white wines, we want to show the values of the local terroir through the world's best-known grapes, in addition to local varieties. From 2022, we will also be adding a Chardonnay to our range. The wine will be aged in barrels to delight fans of the variety with its rich, creamy flavours.
