Our Riesling Strikes Gold in Asia

Villa Gyetvai’s 2021 Riesling won the gold medal at this year's Asia Wine Trophy.

The Asia Wine Trophy is recognised by the OIV, the world's leading international vine and wine organisation. This recognition also guarantees that both the competition and the judging itself are conducted according to standards accepted in Europe.

With over 4,300 entries in 2023, the Asia Wine Trophy has become the largest and most important wine competition in Asia. A jury of 140 wine experts taste and judge the entries, and many journalists are invited to the event to ensure that the competition and its results receive the widest possible publicity.

For us, Riesling is the variety that produces the most sophisticated and exciting white wines. We expect the best from it every vintage, and it delivers. Tight, vibrant and elegant, it delights with rich, tropical fruit flavours when young, but fans of the variety know it is one of the most rewarding whites to drink after some ageing, as with the time spent in bottle extra layers of complexity emerge.

Our 2021 Riesling is light gold in colour with a medium oily texture. The nose displays notes of honey, peach, apple, rosemary and a hint of diesel. The style is reminiscent of Austrian Rieslings. Bone dry and elegant, it is medium bodied with a zesty acidity. The palate echoes the aromas of the nose and is complemented by flavours of peat, petrol, lemon, lime and graphite.
