Germany is undoubtedly the heartland of the world-famous variety, Riesling. It is therefore particularly gratifying for us to see our Riesling from Lake Balaton receive such recognition at the Berliner Wine Trophy.
Just looking at the results achieved last year we have every reason to be proud of the terroir and the performance of our winery in the Balatonfüred-Csopak wine region, as we have already reported, our 2022 vintage Riesling brought home a gold medal from the Berliner Wine Trophy "Winter Edition" competition.
This result was repeated at the next "Summer Edition" tasting, also in 2024, but this time it was our 2023 Rajnai Rizling that was the winner. It is important to get a good result in a German wine competition with a Riesling, and here we raised the stakes by entering a wine not yet available on the market, and not benefiting from the grape variety's renowned ageing potential.
However, consumers will benefit when the wine, which is still maturing in the cellar, is released. The special 2022 vintage is currently available. Why is it special? Before and after this, the raw material for our Riesling is matured in stainless steel containers, but in 2022, as an experiment, we have put more emphasis on barrel ageing. The aromas may be slightly different from what most people expect from a Riesling, but it's a new way to showcase the variety, and we think it's definitely worth a try!
